Studies on Seed Propagation Method of Oenanthe stolonifera DC.

Abstract
|
|
|
In order to find out an effective propagation method of Oenanthe stolonifera which has been propagated vegetatively so far, several investigations on germination inhibitors in fruit were carried out. The results were as follows:
1. Brown-colored extract of the pericarp or intact fruit (seed) inhibited strongly the germination of lettuce seeds. However, extract of the decoated seed had no inhibiting activity on seed germination. The inhibiting activity was weakened by removing the brown-colored pigments with charcoal.
2. Maximum 7 kinds of band were recognized in paper chromatogram of O. stolonifera fruit (seed) extract.
3. O. stolonifera fruit (seed) extract showed quite different absorbance pattern from ABA.
4. All of the other regions except Rf 0.3 showed the existence of inhibiting substances in the dry fruit (seed) of O. stolonifera when the extract was examined with the rice second leafsheath growth test. A drastic decreasing of the inhibiting activity was recorded after one week of washing, and promoting substances increased after 2 weeks of washing.
5. O. stolonifera fruit (seed) extract seemed to contain some phenolic compounds since the test results agreed with the responses of the known phenolic compound test method.
